Chlamydia trachomatis infection is one the fastest spreading sexually transmitted diseases in industrialized countries. This viral infection can cause pelvic inflammatory disease, infertility, ectopic pregnancy, and chronic pelvic pain if not treated. Chlamydia infections constitute a major public health concern in today’s world. Because infected women have absolutely no specific symptoms, and chlamydia is known to be asymptomatic, screening programs represent one of the best approaches to controlling this infection.
Our Modified Feminine Hygiene Pad has been proven for use as a Sample Self-Collection Device for the Detection of Genital Chlamydial Infection in Women.
Tests were conducted to compare the results from samples taken with the modified sanitary pad with those taken by endocervical swab and urine specimens for the detection of urogenital Chlamydia trachomatis infection.
Participants were asked to wear the modified pad (Ezy-Detek) during 4 consecutive hours, and to bring it back to the clinic or mail it to the laboratory.
The studies have proven that the MSN2 device represents the most accurate and cost-effective approach to the detection of not only C. trachomatis but also other STDs.
Because our pad is an easy, noninvasive, private, and efficient specimen self-collection device for C. trachomatis testing, women are very comfortable using it. The goal is to make this device available to all women.
